BJD Wig Cap tutorial. PT 1.

Ive read through a couple of different wig tutorials to try and gather the best way to make a wig, and whilst all had different cap methods the best i have found is this one.

I'm not saying this is the best method for everyone or that this is the only method you should use but it definitely works for me. In this first part i will show you the steps and options on making a wig cap.

Look out for part 2 on the wefts! (hair strands)

I have only made 2 different wigs fully. The first i made by sewing it onto a head cap but i found this took far too long and it ruined my needle! :(

So step 1 - Choose your doll!

This is the little cutie i have chose to make a wig cap for today.

You can either remove the head from the body or just remove all the clothing. Whatever you find easier! Step 2 - Cover in cling film!

You want to make sure that the cling film is as tight around the head as it will go without ripping. If you have removed the head from the body you can just twist the cling film so it stays in place or you can use a rubber band. Step 3 - Coat in your choice of glue.

Now you can take a paint brush and coat around the hair line and top of the head where you will want to the cap.

Next step optional : You can either cut out some thin fabric and place it ontop of the glue to make a wig cap. Or you can just do a few layers of glue then glue the hair straight onto the cling film as it will peel off once dry!.

This is the brand i glue i use but any similar will work!

Here is the first wig cap i made, I cut a circle out roughly the same size as my dolls head and cut lines into it so it would fit smoothly over her scalp. I waited for it to dry then added a layer of glue over it for security. In hindsight this is probably why it was so hard to sew on the wefts!

And this is her finished wig! If you like the look of it stay tuned to part 2 where i show you how i made the wefts originally and some tips on speeding up the process!
